Isabel de Borbon

This monument was created in tribute to Isabel Bourbon, daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and the great great grandmother of the current King of Spain. She was also known as the Princess of Asturias or “La Chata” which is a reference to her snub or “button” nose.

Located near to the entrance of the Parque del Oeste, it made of white marble and was inaugurated in 1955. Isabel stands at the centre of the monument, on her right a Violetera is presenting her with a flower which is said to represent her popularity with the “common” folk and on her left a gentleman gesturing towards her. The rear of the moneument faces the park and has a lion faced fountain, with alarge coat of arms above it.
